What goes into the score
- VIX (30%). The CBOE Volatility Index, the market's fear gauge.
- Credit Spreads (15%). High-yield bond spreads, an institutional stress signal.
- Market Pulse AI (15%). AI analysis of current market news and flows, with live prediction market odds from Polymarket (politics, rates, geopolitics, crypto, commodities) fed in as context.
- Yield Curve (12%). 10-year minus 2-year Treasury spread, a recession indicator.
- Unemployment (10%). Labor market health.
- Jobless Claims (10%). Weekly first-time unemployment filings.
- Consumer Sentiment (8%). University of Michigan confidence survey.
The scale
- Zen (80 to 100). Low volatility, healthy credit, strong labor market.
- Calm (65 to 79). Normal conditions, no major red flags.
- Cautious (50 to 64). Some indicators flashing yellow.
- Nervous (35 to 49). Multiple warning signs.
- Fearful (20 to 34). Broad stress across indicators.
- Panic (0 to 19). Extreme conditions.
